Tamil actor Siddharth’s recent tweet for badminton player Saina Nehwal has sparked heated discussions and outrage all over social media. Many internet users have criticised the actor, including Saina’s husband Parupalli Kashyap.

Kashyap, a prominent badminton player, took to Twitter to respond to the tweet.

The 35-year-old stated that the comment was upsetting for the couple, and the actor should have chosen more appropriate words to express his opinion. Kashyap ended the tweet with hashtags of “not cool” and “disgraceful”.

On January 5, Saina tweeted on the recent security lapse in PM Narendra Modi’s convoy. She stated that a country cannot be safe until the Prime Minister’s safety is compromised. Saina strongly condemned the attack, calling it a “cowardly attack by anarchists”.

Responding to this, the ‘Rang De Basanti’ actor wrote, “Subtle cock champion of the world… Thank God we have protectors of India. Shame on you #Rihanna.”

The tweet instantly garnered massive criticism, with many internet users finding it sexually suggestive and derogatory.

Bashing the negative connotations of his remark, Siddharth tweeted a clarification, stating that he neither intended to nor said anything disrespectful. The Tamil actor added that reading the tweet in a sexual interpretation is “unfair”.

In conversation with News18, Saina shared that she used to like Siddharth as an actor before the fiasco unfolded. She added that the actor could have chosen better words to express himself.

The National Commission of Women (NCW) has also written to the Directors-General of Police of Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu for an FIR to be filed, as well as urging Twitter India to ban the actor’s social media handle. Rekha Sharma, chairperson of the committee, had earlier shared a tweet which read, “This man needs a lesson or two. Twitter India, why this person’s account still exists? Taking it up with concerned police”.
