The Congress party landed in controversy and became target of social media trolls when on Saturday its social media managers mistook Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw for Field Marshal Kodandera Madappa Cariappa. Friday marks the death anniversary of Field Marshal Cariappa and Congress posted a picture of Field Marshal Manekshaw with a caption, “Field Marshal Kodandera Madappa Cariappa OBE was the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army and the first Indian to command a battalion. On his death anniversary, we thank him for his valour and leadership during the all-important Indo-Pakistan War of 1947.”

Social media users were quick to point out the mistake and reminded the grand old party of its blunder. The Congress deleted the post but it was too late.
Here are some of the reactions:
BJP MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar Meanwhile took to Twitter and wrote, “tdy at Rahuls Cong .. this ?? Field Marshal Manekshaw image instead of Field Marshal Cariappa on his death anniversary”.
The party later posted the tributes with the correct photo.
Field Marshal Cariappa was the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army and he led Indian forces on the Western Front during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947.
