In a tweet on Monday, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor questioned why Home Minister Amit Shah, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, chose to go to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, instead of going to the government-run AIIMS in
Delhi.

The comment was a reply to a tweet by Vishakh Cherian, who
tagged Tharoor in a post on the premier All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMs) in Delhi.

“AIIMS, one of the “Temples of modern India”, a concept coined by the first PM of India,” Cherian wrote.

“These projects were part of his vision of development of modern
India with a mix of heavy industries, scientific research institutes,
educational institutions, financial orgs, etc.” he added.

Commenting on it, Tharoor tweeted, “Public
institutions need the patronage of the powerful if they are to inspire public
confidence,” referring to Home Minister Amit Shah’s decision to go to Medanta, a
private hospital in Gurugram and not AIIMS.

Home Minister Amit Shah was admitted to Medanta on Sunday after he
was tested positive for coronavirus. He announced the news on Twitter
and said, he got himself tested after noticing initial symptoms of the virus.
