Former batsman Michael Hussey was one of the Australians who were in India for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. And once he reached back home, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batting coach opened up about the IPL and how it was carried out amid the COVID-19 pandemic, until it came to a sudden halt within a month from its beginning.

Hussey was also one of the COVID-19 cases in the IPL, because of which he had to serve his quarantine period in India until the result was negative. He reached Sydney on Monday.  “I wasn’t thinking about (getting home) too much to start with”, said Hussey to Fox Sports Australia. “I was focusing on just trying to get better again, really”.

Hussey was alongside many more people involved with the IPL who tested positive for coronavirus this year, CSK bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji being one of them. Hussey said that he suspected getting infected by the virus before the test results, as he showed symptoms prior to getting tested. He also told that Balaji was someone he sat with, in the team bus during IPL, Fox Sports Australia quoted.

“My initial test came up as a weak positive, and we were sort of hoping the next would be negative and it’d be alright, but unfortunately I got retested the next day and that came back positive,” he told Fox Sports Australia. Talking about the bio-secure bubbles in IPL, Hussey felt that it was safe in Mumbai and that moving to Delhi was not as safe since they were exposed more to flight attendants, and airport security, and others.
