David Warner now has the most number of half-centuries in T20s against his name. The Delhi Capitals opener brought up his 89th fifty on Thursday in 34 balls against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
Warner swiveled across and pulled Umran Malik’s back of a length over mid-wicket to bring up his fourth fifty in IPL 2022. He now holds the record for most number of half-centuries in T20s. Chris Gayle (88), Virat Kohli (77), Shoaib Malik (71) and Aaron Finch (70) follow the Aussie in the list.
David Warner has scored 55 half-centuries in 159 IPL games. He has 21 in 88 T20Is.
The 35-year-old plays a key role for the Capitals at the top. Ahead of the game against SRH, he said that Rishabh Pant and co will need to win all their games to reach the finals.
DC are currently seventh in the standings with eight points from nine games but with another five rounds left for a few teams and four for some of the others, save Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, no team is sure of securing a top four berth.
“Moving forward from where we are, we’ve obviously got to win every game to make it to the finals. There’s a strong competition, two teams we have got to come against – Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, who are pretty much similar points to us,” Warner said.
“We could get that upper hand if we beat Sunrisers. We then go into the top four, but obviously, we need RCB to start losing as well. It’s quite a congested table, but exciting for the rest of the tournament,” he added.
Meanwhile, DC were 165-3 after 17 overs in the first innings. Warner and Rovman Powell were slamming the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers all over the park.
