Delhi became the latest state to confirm the presence of the bird flu virus after all right samples sent to a Bhopal lab tested positive on Monday. 

In light of the increasing spread of the avian flu, the Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs will chair a meeting on Monday to take take stock of the situation, news agency ANI reported.

Eight other states, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat have also reported cases of the virus. 

The samples, four of which were from a park in Mayur Vihar Phase 3, three from Sanjay Lake and one from Dwarka, have been found positive for the virus, PTI quoted Dr Rakesh Singh from the animal husbandry unit of the Development Department as saying.

Officials had earlier confirmed that around 50 birds had died in Central Park, Mayur Vihar Phase 3 over three or four days, in addition to 10 ducks being found dead in the Sanjay Lake recently. 

The Delhi Development Authority has already closed Hauz Khas Park, Dwarka Sector 9 Park, Hastsal Park and Sanjay Lake as a precautionary measure in view of the bird flu scare.

Hauz Khas Park in south Delhi has a huge water body and attracts a large crowd every day. However, no death of birds has been reported there.

The poultry market in Ghazipur has also been shut down temporarily.
