The Delhi government on Thursday imposed a night curfew in the city from 11 pm to 6 am on December 31 and January 1 amid mounting fears over the new strain of coronavirus, PTI reported.

According to an order by Delhi Chief Secretary Vijay Dev, there will be no New Year celebration events in the city and gatherings at public places have been limited to five persons.

However, there will be no restriction on interstate movement of people and goods during the night curfew.

As of Wednesday, a total of 20 people in India have been found infected with the new strain of the coronavirus, first detected in the United Kingdom, PTI reported.

The suspension of passenger flights between the UK and India, imposed on December 23, has been extended till January 7, with the government saying they will resume in a “strictly regulated manner” thereafter.
