Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday became the first to get
vaccinated, as the nationwide process of inoculation for those over 60 and
those between 45 and 59 with co-morbidities got underway. The Prime Minister’s
vaccination was done by two nurses: Rosamma Anil and P Niveda, from Kerala and
Puducherry respectively, as per various media reports.

Significantly, both the aforementioned states go to polls in
the coming months.

“Took my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at AIIMS.
Remarkable how our doctors and scientists have worked in quick time to
strengthen the global fight against COVID-19. I appeal to all those who are
eligible to take the vaccine. Together, let us make India COVID-19 free!”, he tweeted
out.

According to news agency ANI, the Prime Minister asked the nurses
where they were from, and seemingly appreciated the inoculation process for its
smoothness.

“Sir (PM Modi) has been administered first dose of Bharat
Biotech’s Covaxin, second dose will be given in 28 days. He asked us where do
we belong to and after vaccination he said, ‘Laga bhi di, pata hi nahi chala’
(done already? I did not even feel it)”, ANI quoted Sister P Niveda as saying.

Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, an indigenously developed shot
which got embroiled in controversy after it was reportedly cleared for use while
still being in trial stages.
