1. Eggs: Eggs that signifies new life and christ resurrection is one of the most important Easter food. The hard shell of the egg symbolises the tomb in which Jesus was kept and the chick inside represents Jesus himself. The tradition of an egg is also linked to lent. Six weeks before Easter, Christian forbid themselves from eating animal product such as meat, egg, and dairy product so Easter is the time of great feast.

2. Roasted Lamb: Lamb is one of the most enjoyed delicacies of Easter. It is generally served on Easter Sunday and a religious symbol. It is linked with the reference of Jesus being the Sacrificial Lamb of God. People from different origin use different spices to prepare the dish but garlic, lemon and herbs are few common ingredients that are universal before roasting.

3. Cross Bun: The hot cross bun which is generally prepared on the day of Good Friday, symbolizes the cross on which Jesus was crucifixion. It is also said that the bun prepared on a Good Friday never go bad for the entire year. The Cross bun also marks the end of Lent, because it is made of dairy products, which was forbidden during the 40 days of the Lent period.

4. Simnel Cake: The origin of Simnel cake is still a mystery to most people. The cake is traditionally made with a layer of Marzipan in the middle and decorated with 11 Marzipan balls to represent the apostles, excluding Judas because of his betrayal against Jesus.

5. Pretzels: There is a story behind the invention of the pretzel. It is believed that pretzel was made by an Italian monk in the year 610 A.D to reward children for learning the prayers. The monk folded the dough of bread to resemble the crossed arms of praying children. It is made of simple ingredients and can be eaten during the Lent period when Christians forbid themselves from eating meat and egg. In ancient times pretzel was used instead of eggs for Easter hunt.

6. Babka: Babka is one of the important dishes of Easter, it is a tall and airy yeast cake made in a Bundt pan. People often decorate it with rum syrup and dazzled with icing but as per the custom the dish has no filling. Its name is derived from ‘grandmother’, which might refer to its shape that looks like grandmother’s pleated skirt.

7. Easter Bread: It is one of the important foods and is used in almost all religious ceremony. It represents the body of Christ and is served as the last supper. It is traditional to adopt a bread recipe and is commonly made during the Easter weekend. For a twist, Easter brad is often decorated with eggs and other festive decorations.
