India-based fantasy sports platform Dream11 won the IPL 2020 title sponsorship for Rs 222 crore, IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel said. The company will hold the sponsorship rights for four months and 13 days, PTI reported.

Dream 11 outbid Tata Frontrunner, education technology company Unacademy, Byju’s to win the title sponsorship. IPL is slated to begin from September 19, with finals scheduled on November 10 in the UAE.

According to PTI, the Tata group didn’t place a final bid while two education technology companies – BYJUs (201 crore) and Unacademy (170 crore) – came second and third respectively. The sponsorship seat fell vacant when Vivo pulled out of the title rights in the wake of China-India diplomatic tensions.

” “Taking note of the border skirmish that resulted in the martyrdom of our brave jawans, the IPL Governing Council has convened a meeting next week to review IPL’s various sponsorship deals,” BCCI had said in a tweet posted on June 19.

BCCI had earlier said that the highest bidder might not get the title sponsorship, unless the parent body is satisfied with its plan for the high-valued brand.
