Thousands of farmers took out massive tractor rallies from Delhi’s border areas through the national capital, on the occasion of the 72nd Republic Day on Tuesday. Farmers marched on tractors and on foot, from Delhi’s border all the way to Red Fort.

Here is what we know so far

1. Protesting farmers took out tractor rally from Delhi’s border points, including Singhu, Tikri, Chilla and Ghaziabad. They waved flags, raised slogans and sang revolutionary songs, PTI reported. Locals were also seen distributing food and water bottles to the protesting farmers who were part of the march.

2. At the Tikri border, the protesters mounted atop police barricade, ANI reported. Similar scenes were witnessed at Mukarba Chowk, Delhi-Meerut Expressway near Pandav Nagar and Karnal bypass, where they broke police barricading. 

3. Situation grew tense at Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar, where protesters arrived from Singhu border. Some of them were seen atop a police water cannon vehicle. The police fired tear gas, ANI reported.

4. At ITO area in Delhi, protesters broke police barricading and vandalised a DTC bus. There were clashes with the police and injuries were reported. Police personnel, who was attacked by a section of protesters was rescued by another, ANI reported. The police fired tear gas.

5. At Delhi’s Nangloi, police personnel sat on roads to block the area, ANI reported.

6.  Rakesh Tikait, spokesperson of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) said there were people from political parties “who are trying to malign the agitation,” ANI reported.

7. Protesters reached the Red Ford and waved flags from its ramparts. They hoisted flags at a pole, while another flag was hoisted at a dome.

8. Internet services were snapped in the areas of Singhu, Ghazipur, Tikri, Mukarba Chowk, Nangloi and their adjoining areas till 23.59 hrs on January 26, Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement, ANI reported.

9. A protesting farmer died at Delhi’s ITO after his tractor overturned, PTI reported quoting the police.
