Swedish teen climate activist Greta Thunberg on Friday extended her support for jailed Indian activist Disha Ravi, who has been in custody in connection with the farmers’ protest toolkit case.

In her tweet, Thunberg said “Freedom of speech and the right to peaceful protest and assembly are non-negotiable human rights.”

She added, “These must be a fundamental part of any democracy. #StandWithDishaRavi.”

Ravi was arrested after police alleged she helped edit a so-called toolkit, which offers basic advice including joining on-the-ground farmers’ protests and showing support on social media.

“The main aim of the toolkit was to create misinformation and disaffection against the lawfully enacted government,” AFP quoted Delhi Police’s Joint Commissioner of Police for Cyber Crime, Prem Nath as saying.

Police decided to investigate the toolkit after Thunberg linked it in a tweet in early February showing support for farmers protesting against new farm laws.

Ravi was on Friday sent to three-day judicial custody after Delhi Police produced her before the court on expiry of her five-day custodial interrogation.

According to police, Ravi’s custodial interrogation was not required for the time being and the agency may seek her further interrogation once her co-accused Shantanu Mukul and Nikita Jacob Jacob join the interrogation, reported PTI.
