Rashid Khan‘s three sixes off the final four deliveries propelled  Gujarat Titans to a five-wicket victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 40th match of the 2022 Indian Premier League in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday. Interestingly, the last over of both innings went for 25 runs, with the last deliveries being hit for a six.

Sent to bat first, Kane Williamson-led SRH posted 195 for six with Abhishek Sharma top-scoring for the side with 65. Shashank Singh played a stunning cameo of 25 not out off just six balls towards the end of the innings.

SRH’s young pacer Umran Malik‘s stunning figures of 5/25 — his maiden five-for — went in vain as GT chased down the target of 196 in the last ball thanks to batting heroics of Rashid Khan (31 not out) and Rahul Tewatia (40 not out). Wriddhiman Saha made 68 off 38 balls at the top of the order.

“I was just trying to play my game and have the belief in my batting which I’ve been working on the last two years,” Rashid Khan said. “When it was 22 left, I just told Tewatia that we have given 25 in the last over with our best bowler Ferguson. We just have to have that belief in ourselves … and luckily we had those four sixes.”

Asked at the presentation ceremony about Tewatia and Khan’s onslaught, GT skipper Hardik Pandya said, “We are quite practical as well and talk about winning the right situations. We always back them because they have a lot of self belief.”

“We have intentionally tried to make sure that the dugout or in the dressing room to keep the atmosphere calm because it helps the players play their best game. A lot of credit goes to the support staff.”
