President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday inaugurated the world’s largest cricket stadium, Narendra Modi Stadium at Motera in Ahmedabad, reported ANI.

The inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of  Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.

Sharing the vision of making Ahmedabad a ‘sports city’, Union Minister Amit Shah announced that a sports complex will also be built in Naranpura city of Gujarat.

“The three sports premises, upcoming Naranpura sports complex, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave and Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, will be equipped to host all sorts of international sports event,”added Shah.

Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi (Gujarat) Stadium in Motera will be hosting the third Test between India and England on Wednesday. The world-largest stadium will have a seating capacity of 1,32,000. 

India and England Test will be the first international match to be held at Motera stadium since its reconstruction. Only 55,000 spectators will be allowed at the stadium on Wednesday in view of COVID-19 outbreak.
