Haryana police set up barricades and deployed water cannons across the state as protesting farmers headed towards Delhi, reported ANI.

Hundreds of farmers faced water cannons in freezing weather at Kurukshetra after crossing barricades at Ambala. Videos on social media showed huge jets of water being fired at the farmers on the highway barricaded by the police.

Despite being drenched in the cold winter evening, the farmers managed to breach the barricade and continued marching through Kurukshetra on way to Karnal.

Major security arrangements have been made at the Delhi-Haryana border at Gurugram, the build-up being the heaviest on the Haryana side.

The police said, “No protestors will be allowed to enter Delhi. If any protestor tries to enter, they will have to face legal action as Delhi Police have warned all the protesting organizations well within the time in writing & through social media,” ANI reported.

The Delhi police had earlier rejected all requests from farmers’ organisations from six states that include Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarkhand, Rajasthan, Kerala and Punjab,  to hold a protest in Delhi against the farm laws.

However, the farmers have planned to reach Delhi on November 26 through five highways as part of their “Delhi Chalo” march call.
