The Economic Survey of Haryana for 2021–22, which was presented to the Assembly on March 8th, states that from 2014–15 through September 2021, a total of 21,450 illegal mining cases, including the transportation of minerals without valid documentation, were discovered in the state.

In spite of a 2009 Supreme Court order banning it, mining has continued unabatedly in a number of locations throughout the Aravalli region.

Aravalli Bachao Citizens Movement, a group of citizens, approached the National Green Tribunal earlier this year. They claimed that at least 16 locations in the area were rife with illegal mining.

The petitioners told the tribunal, “In many locations, substantial portions of the hills have been mined and taken away and, in some instances, completely razed to the ground,” as per NDTV.
