Thokchom Radheshyam Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won the Heirok assembly constituency beating Moirangthem Okendro of the Indian National Congress (INC) by a margin of 403 votes.

Heirok assembly constituency has Thokchom Radheshyam Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) taking on Moirangthem Okendro of the Indian National Congress (INC) and Ningthoujam Diten Singh of the National People’s Party this year in the Manipur assembly elections.

Thokchom Radheshyam Singh of the BJP had won the Heirok seat in 2017 when the INC swept Manipur winning 28 of Manipur’s 60 assembly seats. Singh had beaten his closest rival Moirangthem Okendro by over 1,647 votes. Okendro had contested that election on a Congress ticket.

In 2012, the seat was won by Moirangthem Okendro of the INC. 

Heirok falls under the Thoubal district and the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency, which is made up of 28 assembly seats.

Lorho S. Pfoze of Naga People’s Front represented Outer Manipur as a member of Parliament in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Pfoze defeated Houlim Shokhopao Mate from the BJP with a margin of  73,782 votes.

The Heirok assembly constituency voted in the second phase of the Manipur elections on March 5, 2022, along with 21 other constituencies. 

Results will be declared on March 10, along with those for elections in four other states, including Uttar Pradesh.
