For the tour to New Zealand, India’s interim head coach will be VVS Laxman, director of the National Cricket Academy, as Rahul Dravid and his coaching staff have been given a break following the team’s elimination from the T20 World Cup. Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Sairaj Bahutule will go to New Zealand with the team, serving as the batting and bowling coaches, respectively, according to a PTI report.

Dravid will resume his coaching responsibilities when India travels to Bangladesh right after the New Zealand tour. Starting on November 18, India will play three T20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals against New Zealand. From December 4, the Men in Blue will play the first of three One-Day Internationals against Bangladesh.

Along with giving the coaching staff a break, India has also rested senior batters Virat Kohli and KL Rahul as well as regular captain Rohit Sharma. India’s T20I series’ interim skipper will be the all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, while Shikhar Dhawan will take the helm for the ODI series.

Laxman has already served as India’s coach for other brief periods, including the earlier this year tours to Ireland and Zimbabwe, as well as the most recent home ODI series against South Africa.
