“I am depressed and I have been for more than four years,” said Ira Khan, daughter of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, in a new video post on social media. She continued, “I have been to a doctor and I am clinically depressed.”

In the video, Khan said she wanted to do something around mental health awareness for ‘over a year’, but she was not sure what to do. “I have decided to take you on a journey, my journey, and see what happens.”

The 23-year-old shared the video on the occasion of World Mental Health Day and urged people to come with her on this journey.

The World Health Organization on Saturday said that globally, nearly one in 10 people have mental health conditions with depression leading cause of disability. The organisation noted that every 40 seconds, a person dies by suicide.

“There’s no way to say it all in one go. But I’d like to think I’ve figured some stuff out, or at least figured out how to make it slightly more understandable. About mental health and mental ill-health,” Khan wrote.

She added, “Let’s start a conversation.”
