The
Centre has asked all states and Union territories in a countrywide advisory to
tighten security during Tuesday’s ‘Bharat Bandh’ called by farmer unions and supported
by opposition parties, while asserting that peace should be maintained, PTI
reported.

In the advisory,
the Union Home Ministry has further said that the states and UT’s must ensure
COVID-19 protocols in place for maintaining health measures including social
distancing be followed.

The bandh
has been called by several farmer unions protesting against three farm laws
enacted in the Monsoon session of the Parliament. Major political parties,
including Congress, NCP, DMK, and the Left have come out supporting the bandh.

Farmers
from north Indian states like Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have been
protesting at various border points of Delhi against the laws.

Dialogues
between the government and the farmer bodies remained inconclusive on Saturday,
after farmer leaders maintained their demands of the repealing of the laws and
went for a ‘maun vrat’ (oath of silence) in their quest towards a ‘yes or no’
reply. The government, on the other hand, has called for another meeting on
December 9 to discuss the issue.
