India reported 2,35,532 new COVID-19 cases, 871 deaths and 3,35,939 recoveries in the last 24 hours, according to data updated by the health ministry on Saturday.

With this, the daily positivity rate has dropped from 15.8% to 13.39%. Active cases have now reached 20,04,333, comprising 4.91% of the total cases in the country.

Nearly 1,65,04,87,260 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in India so far. This includes 56,72,766 doses in the last 24 hours, comprising 6,74,623 booster shots for the eligible population. The nation’s mass vaccination campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 16 last year.

Meanwhile, omicron is now the dominant variant behind COVID-19 cases in the country, the government said in a press conference on Thursday.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20,00,000 mark on August 7, 2020, 30,00,000 on August 23, 40,00,000 on September 5 and 50,00,000 on September 16. It went past 60,00,000 on September 28, 70,00,000 on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90,00,000 on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.

India crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4 and three crore on June 23.
