Sri Lanka scored 262/9runs in the first innings riding on a timely 43 by Chamika Karunaratne. For India Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal and Deepak Chahar took two wickets each. This was Sri Lanka’s highest score without an individual fifty-plus score.

None of Sri Lanka’s batsmen, other than Karuraratne, were able to capitalize on their starts. Most of them didn’t carry on beyond the 20s and 30s. It was Karuraratne and Chameera’s exploits in the last three overs that helped the hosts reach a respectable total.

Sri Lankan openers Avishka Fernando (32) and Minod Bhanuka (27) put on 49 runs for the first wicket but, after the dismissal of the former, the home team kept losing wickets at regular intervals and failed to challenge the opposition bowlers.

Down the order, skipper Dasun Shanaka (39) and Charith Asalanka (38) made useful contributions.

For India, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal accounted for four wickets. Krunal Pandya was the most economical bowler for the visitors. The Baroda spinner gave away 26 runs in 10 overs, picking one wicket. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who gave away 63 runs in 9 overs, had an off-day.

Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav were handed their caps and the two made their ODI debuts.
