A COVID-19 outbreak in the Delhi Capitals’ dressing room
threatens to put the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in
jeopardy. With nearly half the squad infected, no one knows how this will
affect the fate of this cricket extravaganza. It’s not as if that the organisers
were unaware of the risks associated with conducting a tournament amid the
pandemic. As such, they took several measures to minimise the risk of
transmission. The following are the COVID protocols in place for this edition
of the Indian Premier League:

1.    If a player or
team member tests positive in the tournament bubble, then he will have to
remain isolated for at least seven days. After this, if two RT-PCR test reports
come negative within 24 hours, only then he will gain entry into the league
again.

2.      If several
members of a franchise test positive, then it can play matches with at least 12
negative players. It is necessary to have 7 Indians and one substitute player.

3.
If even 12 negative players are unavailable, then the IPL
Governing Council will take the final decision. This decision has to be
accepted by all parties.

On violating bio-bubbles

Players
may be removed
from the season for breaking the bio-bubble. As per the COVID
protocols, if any player, family member, team owner or people associated with
the team break the bio-bubble, then they will be punished. If the player breaks
the bio-bubble, he will face a one-match ban and will have to quarantine for 7
days.

Negligence
in conducting COVID test also fined

The Board
of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also made rules if players miss a
COVID test. The first miss will result in a warning while the second miss will
cause a fine of Rs 75,000 and there will be a ban on going to the stadium or
the training ground.
