Bhuban Badyakar, the voice of the popular ‘Kacha Badam’ song, was involved in an accident on Monday. The accident occurred as he was learning how to drive his recently-acquired vehicle. He has sustained a chest injury and is now being treated at Suri Super Speciality Hospital in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, according to India Today.

After his song ‘Kacha Badam’ went viral, Bhuban Badyakar became an instant online star. This song has been playing in the background of almost every other song on Instagram. Badyakar wrote the song to attract clients while he sold peanuts in several villages in the Birbhum area. His song was later remixed and published on YouTube, where it has received more than 50 million views.

Bhuban had stated in an interview with ETimes, “Many people in my area had insulted and mocked me when I first came up with this song. And now, when the song has gone viral, they want to meet me, visit me at my home. Some have even urged me to take a selfie with them. This is the irony. Time and luck change for everyone.”

Bhuban Badyakar lives in the Dubrajpur block of Kuraljuri village, which is part of the Lakshminarayanpur Panchayat in West Bengal‘s Birbhum district. Bhuban has a family of five people, including his wife, two sons, and a daughter. He trades peanuts for little trinkets and broken household things. He rides his bike to remote communities to sell peanuts. Every day, he sells 3- 4 kg of peanuts and gets Rs 200-250. However, after becoming famous as the Kacha Badam man, he no longer intends to sell peanuts.

The West Bengal Police recently honoured Bhuban Badyakar.
