Lalbaugcha Raja Ganpati
Mandal, which is famous for its iconic Ganesh idols, is conducting
blood and plasma donation camp in Mumbai while celebrating its Arogya Utsav on
the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi this year.

“Due to COVID-19, we
are conducting this camp instead of a Ganesh pandal,” president of the Mandal told ANI.

The most popular Ganpati
mandal of the city had last month announced cancellation of the Ganesh Chaturthi
celebrations
in view of the coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier this
month, NCP patriarch, Sharad Pawar also said that the mandal has decided to
give Rs 1 lakh each
to the families of 92 policemen, who lost lives in the line
of duty.

The mandal will also give cheques of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of
CRPF jawan Sunil Kale, who was killed in an encounter with militants in Jammu
and Kashmir in June, and Army jawan Sachin More, who sacrificed his life during
construction of a road and bridge in extreme weather conditions in Leh.

Maharashtra Chief
Minister Uddhav Thackeray last month called for a simple and low-key Ganpati
festival celebration this year in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, and asked
Ganesh mandals to undertake social welfare programmes.

He said the threat
of coronavirus is not yet over and therefore, it will not be possible to
celebrate the Ganesh festival with the usual pomp and gaiety. He also said
Ganesh mandals should not install idols with a height of more than four feet
during the festival.
