The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Thursday rejected a bail plea of
stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui and fellow accused Nalin Yadav, in a case where
they were accused of passing questionable remarks against Hindu deities, PTI
reported.

The presiding Justice Rohit Arya of the Indore High court on Monday rejected
Faruqui’s bail plea, reserving the order.

The single-judge bench, in its ruling, said while dismissing the plea that no case can be made for granting Faruqui a bail based on the relevant material seized so far, from the witness statements, as well as from the fact that an investigation is ongoing.

The court, at the same time, refused to comment on the contentions of the relevant parties.

“The observations, if any made in the order on facts are only for
the purpose of deciding these bail applications and shall have no bearing on
pending trial,” AFP quoted the order as stating.

It furthermore added, significantly in line with the content of the
case, that India is a beautiful nation and sets an example of coexistence while
keeping in line with the motto of diversity.

Faruqui was arrested from Gujarat alongside four others on January 1,
after a BJP MLA’s son complained against him and four others, claiming they used
objectionable remarks against Hindu deities during a comedy show in Indore.
