The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Monday closed the entry and exit gates of Brigadier Hoshiar Singh, Bahadurgarh City, Pandit Shree Ram Sharma and Tikri Border metro stations in view of intensifying farmers’ protest against Centre’ three farm laws.

“Security Update. Entry/exit gates of Brigadier Hoshiar Singh, Bahadurgarh City, Pandit Shree Ram Sharma and Tikri Border are closed,” DMRC issued an advisory on Monday.

Tens of thousands of farmers have been demonstrating a sit-in protest at Ghazipur on the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border after Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait broke into tears and appealed the protestors to continue the agitation following the Red Fort violence on Republic Day.

Meanwhile, commuters in the national capital faced heavy traffic jams as major Delhi’s borders with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh were closed on Monday due to the farmers’ protest.

The Delhi Traffic Police has alerted travellers in the morning about the affected areas and suggested alternative routes for commuters.

“Traffic will remain affected on Road No. 56 from ISBT Anand Vihar to Ghazipur…,” the Delhi Traffic Police tweeted. The suggested diversion points included Akshardham Setu, NH-9, Max Hospital, NH-24 towards Hassanpur depot, Ghazipur roundabout towards Anand Vihar, Paper market towards Mayur Vihar Phase-3 to avoid Murga Mandi and Kondli Pul towards Ghazipur roundabout.

However, the routes are being opened now slowly.

“Both carriageway at the point of Delhi Toll towards Delhi, and UP. Open now,” the traffic police tweeted.
