A 21-year-old man attempted a robbery at the bar of a church
oratory in northern Italy. The man, whose identity has not been revealed by the police, said that he was copying the style of a thief who had the mastery of performing
these mischievous acts in the French TV series titled ‘Lupin’.

The man, who was arrested by the police, went as far as
donning a leather jacket very similar to that worn by the series’ protagonist. He
hoped that the sound made by the ringing of the church’s bells would muffle the
sound of him smashing the glass door of the oratory’s bar on a Saturday night.

The audacious plan was inspired from the doings of none
other than Assane Diop’s (lead character of Lupin) techniques. Needless to say,
the attempted heist did not go as planned.

He sustained several injuries on his arm because of smashing
through the glass door. The pain took a toll on him and he called for help soon
after returning to his residence.

The thief stole about €21 along with a
bottle of fizzy orange upon successfully entering the oratory’s bar situated in
Monza, a city situated just northeast of Milan.

Some reports suggest that this
is not the first time the man had robbed the oratory’s bar and a similar incident
had occurred a few years ago.

Upon being questioned about his injuries he resorted to a made-up
story of being the victim of an attack by three people who robbed and injured
him. But he was not able to keep up the display for much longer as he broke
down in tears while talking to the police.

He took complete responsibility of his actions and revealed
the role the French TV show ‘Lupin’ played in his attempted robbery.

Italians are not unacquainted with thieves having a go at
venturing tactics. However, at least a chunk of them have been much more successful
than Monza’s ‘Lupin’.

Lupin is a series which is inspired by a fictional master thief Arsene Lupin who was created by Maurice Leblanc. It can be streamed on Netflix and has been renewed for a third part.
