A
30-year-old man has been arrested on Tuesday for Red Fort’s
violence in Delhi on Republic Day, said police on Wednesday. Maninder Singh, who works
as a car AC mechanic, was allegedly swinging swords which “motivated” the
protesters leading to the violence, the Delhi Police said. He was arrested around 7.45 pm near the C D block bus stop in Pitampura in
northwest Delhi.

Deputy Commissioner of
Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah said, “Singh was seen in a
video swinging two swords at Red Fort with intent to motivate or radicalise and
energise the violent anti-national elements indulging in brutal assault or
attack on police persons on duty with swords, ‘khandas’, iron rods, axes,
‘barsaas’, sticks etc and damaging historical monument Red Fort on Republic Day”,
reported PTI.

According to the police, the
suspect runs a sword-training school in a vacant plot near his house in Swaroop
Nagar and has “disclosed to have been radicalised by seeing provoking
Facebook posts of various groups. He used to frequently visit Singhu Border and
was highly motivated by speeches made by leaders there”.

The police also mentioned
that Singh had “motivated” six people of his neighbourhood in which
all six of them on their bikes, had went with tractor rally of farmers that
left from Singhu border towards Mukarba Chowk on Republic Day, reported PTI.

Singh has carried two
swords, known as “khandas” of 4.3 feet with him to tractors parade which he apparantely
used in swinging at Red Fort. The swords has been recovered from his house, the
police added.

The police revealed that
they have found a long video of him purportedly swinging swords on January 26 at
Red Fort on his phone along with several other pictures of his presence at
Singhu border and told that an investigation is ongoing.

The January 26 tractor
parade organised by farmers unions to demand to revoke the government’s three
farm laws, resulted in a conflict between protesters and the police.
