In response to the arrest of his nephew by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said on Friday that he had no issues with the law performing its job.

“I’ve previously stated that the law should do its job. I have no issues with this,” Channi said, according to ANI.

The ED detained Bhupinder Singh Honey the Congress leader’s nephew, on Friday, in connection to an illegal sand mining case. The agency, which raided Honey and his friends on January 18, made the arrest roughly two weeks before voters in the border state go to polls on February 20 in a single-phase election.

However, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi claimed that this was another example of agencies being misused to scare individuals and create pressure on Opposition politicians. “This should not be tolerated during elections,” she said, according to ANI.

“It takes 4-5 years for someone to engage in corrupt activities.” However, he (Channi) accomplished this in only 111 days. It’s unfortunate, and everyone is watching. People in Punjab want an honest government,” stated Delhi CM and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal.
