Several opposition leaders, including NCP’s Sharad Pawar, DMK’s TR Baalu & CPI-M’s Sitaram
Yechury released a statement on Saturday regarding the upcoming farmers
protest in Delhi, news agency ANI tweeted.

According to ANI, the
statement includes a demand for a bigger ground.

“The ground is too small for
tens of thousands that have reached Delhi,” the news agency quoted the
statement as saying.

“The Central Government was forced
to relent and reverse its earlier decision of preventing our Kisans from
reaching Delhi to peacefully to peacefully voice their protest and allocated
them a place to assemble. This ground, however, is too small for the tens of
thousands that have reached Delhi. We the undersigned demand that a larger
ground like Ram Lila Maidan or similar must be allotted for this peaceful
protest and all necessary arrangements must be made for their stay and food”,
the statement further reads.

The farmers, on the other
hand, decided earlier on Saturday to base their protest at Singhu on the
Delhi-Haryana border and meet daily at the location for further strategizing.

The farmers’ protest is
based upon the Centre’s recently implemented farm bills that detractors suggest will remove the
Minimum Support Price (MSP).
