Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and many other public figures expressed their condolences for the lives that were lost due to an oxygen leakage at Nashik’s Zakhir Hussain Hospital on Wednesday. 

“The tragedy at a hospital in Nashik because of oxygen tank leakage is heart-wrenching. Anguished by the loss of lives due to it. Condolences to the bereaved families in this sad hour,” PM Modi tweeted.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also took on social media to express his heartfelt condolences. He appealed to the state government to provide all possible assistance.

“The news of patients’ death at Nashik’s Zakhir Hussain Hospital is extremely tragic. My heartfelt condolences to the aggrieved families. I appeal to State Govt and party workers to provide all possible assistance” Gandhi’s tweet read.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah condoled the loss of life in the Nashik oxygen tanker leak incident. “Distressed to hear the news of the accident. I express my deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones in this incident,” ANI reported his statement.

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis went on to tweet that,  “Very disturbing & painful news from Nashik of many deaths due to #oxygenleak.My deepest condolences to families who lost loved ones.
Priority should be given to assist&shift patients. The truth will come out after inquiry but immediate steps needed to avoid such incidences in the future.”

At least 22 patients who were on ventilators at the Zakhir Hussain in Nashik died on Wednesday, PTI reported quoting the district collector. The patients were undergoing treatment at a hospital for COVID-19 patients being run by the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC).

“22 patients at hospital die due to low oxygen supply following leakage in Nashik,” the district collector said.

A video of oxygen purportedly leaking from the storage plant has gone viral on social media since this morning.
