Three militants, as well as a police personnel, were killed in two separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam and Shopian districts, officials said on Friday. 

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Budgam district’s Zanigam village after officials received information about the presence of militants there, PTI reported.

Officials said that the operation escalated to an encounter after the militants opened fire on the security personnel. 

Meanwhile, in Shopian district’s Badigan area, security forces gunned down three militants. 

“Three terrorists were killed, they were affiliated with Al-Badr and were local militants. Two AK 47 Rifles and a pistol were recovered from them,” news agency ANI quoted IDP Kashmir Vijay Kumar as saying on the Shopian encounter.

The deceased security personnel has been identified as SPO Mohammad Altaf, while another – Sg Ct Manzoor Ahmad – sustained injuries, ANI quoted the Kashmir Zone Police as saying.  

“We received information last night that a foreign terrorist, Yusuf – an LeT Commander, and another militants are holed up in a house. We launched a cordon (operation) with the Army’s help. CRPF reached too. In the morning we came to know that they (militants) escaped but are injured,” Kumar said about the Budgam encounter.

He further stated that a sniffer dog was used to pick up the blood trail of the injured militants, which led to a village around two kilometres away. Security forces are searching the area, Kumar said.
