Indian Prime
Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Rome in Italy and Glasgow, United Kingdom
from October 29 to November 2. First, he will attend the 16th G-20
Summit and then United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), the Ministry
of External Affairs said Sunday.

According to the
ministry, the Prime Minister will participate in the G-20 Summit on October 30
and 31 at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Italy, Mario Draghi. The G20
Summit will see the participation of member nations, invited countries, the
European Union as well as international organisations.

The G20 is an intergovernmental
forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union. The mandate of G20 is to
address issues related to the global economy such as international financial
stability, climate change mitigation and sustainable development. The 2021 G20
Summit will be the eighth summit that the Prime Minister will be attending.

Italy will preside
over the G20 Summit 2021 whose theme is “People, Planet, Prosperity”. The
summit is expected to focus on aspects that will aid the recovery of countries
from the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthen global health governance, economic
recovery and resilience, climate change and energy transition, and sustainable
development and food security.

In course of the
summit, Prime Minister Modi is expected to also hold bilateral conversations
with the Italian Prime Minister.

After the G20
Summit, the Indian PM will travel to Glasgow in Scotland to attend the 26th
Conference of Parties (COP26) United Nations Framework Convention on Climate
Change (UNFCCC) at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
COP26 will be held from October 31 to November 12. COP26 will take place under
the presidency of UK in partnership with Italy.
