Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Umran Malik bowled the fastest delivery of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, clocking over 153 kmph during the match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. Umran bowled the first delivery of his second over at 147 kmph. The fourth delivery in that over clocked 152.95 kmph on the speed gun. The young Kashmir blower breezed past Lockie Ferguson, who had bowled a ball at 152.75 in this year’s IPL, to register the fastest delivery of the season.

Soon after Umran’s fiery over, former cricketers and cricket fans took to Twitter to applaud the raw pace of the youngster from Jammu and Kashmir.

Commentator Harsha Bhogle wrote that he looks a proper bowler and we need to look after him.

Former India batter Wasim Jaffer shared a meme reacting to Umran Malik’s performance.

Here are the other reactions on Twitter:

Senior Journalist Shekhar Gupta wrote that, “We must thank Irfan pathan for spotting his talent & nursing him…”

Another user posted a video comparing Malik’s bowling action with fomer pakistani pacer Waqar Younis.

SRH defeated RCB by four runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jason Holder, Siddarth Kaul, Umran Malik and Rashid Khan picked one wicket each for Hyderabad. Devdutt Padikkal and Glenn Maxwell scored 41 and 40 respectively for Bangalore.

Jason Holder said that pace is Malik’s biggest assest.

Speaking about Umran Malik during the post match presentation skipper Kane Willamson said that, “He (Malik) certainly is special. We saw him in the nets in the last couple of seasons and he is a real competitor and is proving to be effective even on slower surfaces.”

He added “He’s got a lot of mates in the team as well and that helps in sharing the knowledge. It’s a great opportunity for the younger guys to get involved and hopefully we will keep

learning and we go (win) again on Friday.”
