Rajasthan Royals (RR) won the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) back in 2008. Written off early in the tournament, the team, under the captaincy of Australia great Shane Warne, faced all odds and came out victorious. However, things didn’t pan out well for them in the following years. The Jaipur-based team failed to qualify for the playoffs as they finished in the sixth position twice (2009 and 2011) and seventh position twice (2012 and 2019).

Meanwhile, amidst all the despair, they kept working on all of their departments – batting, bowling and fielding. And the day was not far when their hard work paid off as they finished third in the league in 2013, and fourth in 2015 and 2018.

Having Shane Warne as their mentor and Andrew McDonald in the coaching department, the young team will strive to do better and learn from their past mistakes, even consolidate on their winning performances.

Under Steve Smith’s captaincy, the likes of Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Riyan Parag, David Miller, Robin Uthappa will surely step up their game and bring the fight to the opposition.

Rajasthan Royals have a knack of unearthing young and raw potential and they have proved time and again by bringing young sensational players to the fore. The team looks formidable on paper and has a balanced batting line-up, along with the lower-order, which can score some runs. Ahead of the 2020 IPL auction, Royals traded Ajinkya Rahane, Krishnappa Gowtham, Dhawal Kulkarni to Delhi Capitals, Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians respectively.

And in the auction, they bought Mayank Markande, Rahul Tewatia and Ankit Rajpoot via trade from Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab.

The Royals sport a pink jersey with a splash of blue on their left shoulder.

The IPL 2020 will start from September 19 at the United Arab Emirates.
