On the 31st day of farmers’ protests against Centre’s three new farm laws, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ally Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) has
split from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) over the agricultural reforms.
Meanwhile, the farmer unions have unanimously agreed to resume talks with the government at a meeting of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha. They will be having a dialogue with the Centre on December 29, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said.
Tikait said that the agenda for dialogue with the Centre will
focus on modalities for revoking the three farm laws and guarantee for Minimum
Support Price (MSP).
Darshan Pal, President of Krantikari Kisan Union, has called on the people of Delhi and the entire country to celebrate New Year with the protesting farmers, PTI reported.
The farmers will also be organising a tractor march on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal highway on December 30, 2020, as a sign of protest against the Centre’s agriculture laws. However, the toll plazas in Punjab and Haryana will not be blocked.
Former Lok Sabha MP Harinder Singh Khalsa resigned from BJP in support
of the farmers.

The farmers’ protests have been gaining support from all over
the country. The Shiv Sena held a protest in Osmanapura Chowk, Aurangabad
backing the farmers’ demands, saying that the new farm laws place corporate in
a dominant position.
Farmers from various places including Sangrur,
Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur and Bathinda districts were headed towards
Singhu and Tikri borders, loaded with ration and essential items to join hands with
the protesting farmers. The biting cold wave failed to diffuse their spirits as
tractor trollies and cars with women and elderly were seen on the
Amritsar-Delhi national highway. Farmers from Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) and Kisan
Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC) also joined the sit-in.
Farmers from 21 districts in Maharasthra have showed
support to the protesting farmers by travelling from Nashik in vehicles to join
the agitation. The farmers were led by Kisan Sabha.
Former Gujarat Chief Minister Shankersinh Vaghela
also announced a ‘Chalo Dilli’ campaign in Ahmedabad backing the agitation.
Aam Aadmi Party members raised slogans in front of
PM Narendra Modi in the Parliament, but he did not pay any heed.
Madhya Pradesh government implemented the three farm laws in
its state despite the ongoing protests.
The farmers’ agitation entered day 31 on Saturday. The farmers
are sitting in protest against the three farm laws implemented by the Centre.
