Afghan spin maestro Rashid Khan, on October 29, became the quickest bowler, in 53 matches, to take 100 T20I wickets. He achieved that feat with the wicket of Pakistan’s Mohammad Hafeez in an ICC men’s T20 World Cup match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

The 23-year-old became only the fourth bowler to reach the milestone.

Rashid picked up the wicket of the Pakistani veteran at a crucial juncture in the T20 World Cup tie. Later, he went to scalp the wicket of Pakistan captain Babar Azam (51 off 47 balls.)

He joined the likes of Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh (117 wickets), Lasith Malinga of Sri Lanka (107), New Zealand’s Tim Southee (100).

Currently, the Afghan spin wizard is third in the ranking for bowlers in the T20Is, behind South Africa’s Tabraiz Shamsi and Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga.

Having made his T20I debut in 2015 against Zimbabwe, Rashid Khan has been a force to reckon with. He has accounted for 100 wickets at an average of 12 and an economy of just above 6.

At 17, Rashid made his Afghanistan debut. His guile with the ball allowed him to play for the domestic T20 leagues in England, Australia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Africa and the IPL in India.

As far as the match is concerned, Pakistan saw a tricky Afghan bowling unit record a five-wicket win. With this win, Pakistan not only registered their third consecutive victory in the World Cup but also extended their winning streak in the UAE to 14 matches.

Winning the toss, Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi elected to bat, a decision that did not quite play in their favour. They put up a total of 147/6 in their 20 overs. In reply, even though Pakistan overhauled the target in 19 overs, the Babar Azam-led did encounter some problems.

Babar Azam was Pakistan’s highest run-scorer. He was followed by Fakhar Zaman (30 off 25 balls).

Rashid Khan returned with figures of 2/26 in his stipulated 4 overs.
