Aspiring Indian filmmaker Karishma Dev Dube’s directed ‘Bittu’ has made to the top 10 list in the Short Film in Live Action category for the 93rd Academy Awards. The short film is the first project presented by Tahira Kashyap, Ekta Kapoor, Guneet Monga and Ruchika Kapoor under their cinema collective “Indian Women Rising”.

Filmmaker-writer Tahira expressed her happiness of the news through an Instagram post on Tuesday. The post was captioned as “#bittu
is in the top 10 for the 93rd Academy Awards! Can’t keep calm as this is our
first project under @indianwomenrising. This one is so special @k.devdube may
you shine. congratulations @shredevdube @maryelista you all are rockstars.
@ektarkapoor @guneetmonga @ruchikaakapoor we so have our heart in the right
place! Can’t wait to hug you. Guys pls continue supporting this short film with
a big heart.”
Bittu, based on a true events is a heartwarming story of two school going friends.

Ekta also took to her Instagram on
Tuesday and shared a post expressing her excitement. She wrote “Very exciting news
but v persevering women I know who working at it! I’m in august company! Way to
go team #BITTU N @indianwomenrising.”
Guneet wrote, “It’s 4.30am in India… am tossing & turning, stress
eating and texting my IWR girls thru the night and here we are !! BITTU is now
shortlisted for the 93rd Academy Awards.”

this January, the four filmmakers Tahira, Ekta, Guneet and Ruchika joined hands to launch their own cinema collective and named it as “Indian
Women Rising” which aims at discovering Indian female’s talent in cinema.
Bittu
has already garnered praises at more than 18 film festivals across the world and won multiple
times.
