The list of reserved seats for the Uttar Pradesh gram panchayat elections will be released on Tuesday by the District Magistrates and it will include all posts. After the clearance of all objections, the final list will reportedly be published on March 10.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath had announced that a rotational system will be followed in the elections. In the new list, the seats which were reserved for either Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), or Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the previous election would not be reserved again in the same category.

The panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh were earlier held in 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, and 2015.

Last week, the Allahabad High Court, while rejecting the poll panel’s undertaking to hold the polls by May, asked the State Election Commission in Uttar Pradesh to ensure the rural civic body elections are held by April 30.

At present, the state has 826 vikas khands (development blocks), and 58,194 gram sabhas. There are 7,31,813 wards in the gram sabhas in Uttar Pradesh, and 75,855 wards in kshetra panchayats and 30,051 wards in 75 zila panchayats.

Reportedly, out of total gram panchayat seats, 330 will be eserved for STs, 12,045 for SCs and 15,712 for OBCs. The reservation will be based on the percentage of the reserved castes’ population, Panchayati Raj additional chief secretary Manoj Kumar Singh said, quoted the Hindustan Times.
