January 15 is marked as Indian Army Day to honour the courage, bravery, and sacrifices of soldiers, veterans, and their families for their service to the nation.

The Indian Army Parade takes place every year at Delhi Cantonment’s Cariappa Parade Ground. Strict COVID protocol is being followed this year, with soldiers in face masks and proper distancing measures implemented among the seated audience.

The Army Day celebrations can be watched live from the KM Cariappa Parade Ground, New Delhi from 10.20 am on the official Twitter, Youtube, and Facebook handles of the Additional Directorate General of Public Information, IHQ of MoD (Army).

Chief of Armed Forces, General Manoj Mukund Naravane (Army), Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari (Air Force), and Admiral R Hari Kumar (Navy) could be seen paying obeisance at the National War Memorial in Delhi to mark the day.

January 15 commemorates Field Marshal Kodandera Madappa Cariappa (K. M. Cariappa), who’d been the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his wishes to the Indian soldiers, and lauded their bravery and professionalism. He wrote on Twitter,  “Best wishes on the occasion of Army Day, especially to our courageous soldiers, respected veterans and their families. The Indian Army is known for its bravery and professionalism. Words cannot do justice to the invaluable contribution of the Indian Army towards national safety.”

This year, on the 74th Army Day, the new digital combat uniform will be revealed. The decision to introduce the change in apparel was taken at an Army Commanders’ Conference, which took place in October 2021. As per government officials, the new uniform will be showcased in the Army Day parade and features digital disruptive patterns.
