An operating system is a system software
that manages computer hardware, software resources and manages common services
for computer programs. Time-sharing operating systems schedule tasks for

and memory allocation, the operating systems functions like an intermediary

directly by the hardware.

in the world is Microsoft Windows, which dominates the market with a lion’s share
of over 76%, followed by Apple’s macOS in second place with a share of over
17%. The various versions of Linux are collectively in third place with a nearly
1.75% market share.
