of yellow fungus was reported in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad on Monday in a patient who is currently undergoing treatment in one of the hospitals in the city.

Symptoms of the fungal infection include lethargy, weight
loss, and loss of appetite. It also slows down the healing process of wounds and

Black fungus, or mucormycosis, is caused by a group of fungi
called mucormycetes, and mostly affects those with weak immune systems and/or
tissues. The infection has a 50% mortality rate.

On the other hand, white fungus, also known as aspergillosis, is less dangerous than black fungus, the medical director of Delhi’s Lok Nayak Hospital said recently.

Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on
Monday that a total of 5,424 cases of mucormycosis were seen in 18 states and union territories in the last 24 hours.
