Lata Mangeshkar died at the age of 92 at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on February 6, 2022, weeks after she was admitted for COVID-19.
Who is Lata Mangeshkar?
Lata Mangeshkar, who is often referred to as ‘The Nightingale of India’, is a veteran classical singer who has been associated with more than 5,000 songs throughout her career. Singing for Bollywood songs for more than eight decades, she has adapted her skill through the years.

Lata Mangeshkar, who was now 92-years-old, was born in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore in 1929 to Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar and Shevanti. According to media reports, she was trained to sing from a very young age along with her siblings — Asha, Hridaynath, Meena and Usha– who have all turned out to be successful singers and composers.
Best known for her versatile voice quality, Lata Mangeshkar has lent her voice to multiple Bollywood actors- ranging from Priyanka Chopra Jonas to Madhubala. She has also sung for more nearly three dozen regional films, according to reports from Business Standard.

Some of the best popular songs composed by Lata Mangeshkar include ‘Lag Ja Gale’, ‘Main Chali Main Chali’, ‘Rageela Re’, ‘Ajeeb Daastan Hai Yeh’, ‘Gata Rahe Mera Dil’, ‘Yeh Galiyan Yeh Chaubara’ and ‘Luka Chuppi’. The legendary singer has also worked with seasoned music directors like R D Burman, AR Rahman, Madan Mohan and the duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal.
Lata Mangeshkar has also been recognised for her work, both nationally and internationally. She has been presented with the highest civilian honour in India (Bharat Ratna) and its French version too, which is known as Officer of the Legion of Honour.

In addition to multiple Bollywood-related awards, Lata Mangeshkar also holds the Guinness Record of being the most recorded artist in the history of Indian music. She was also given the Daughter of the Nation award on her 90th birthday by the Indian government.
