Okram Ibobi Singh is an Indian National Congress (INC) leader and the former Chief Minister of Manipur. He served as Manipur CM from March 7, 2002, to March 15, 2017.

He is an INC candidate from Thoubal constituency in the Manipur assembly elections 2022. Other candidates from the Thoubal constituency are Leitanthem Basanta Singh (BJP), Irom Chaoba Singh (JDU), Konsam Michael Singh (SHS).

Currently, he is the leader of opposition of Manipur and a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Thoubal constituency. He defeated Leitanthem Basanta Singh of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by 18,649 votes.

Okram Ibobi Singh was born on June 19, 1948, to Okram Angoubi and Lukamani Devi at Athokpam, Thoubal district, Manipur. He is the oldest among the five brothers and three sisters. He completed a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from DM College of Arts, Imphal in the year 1972. He is married to L Landhoni Devi. She is also a politician and two times MLA from Khangabok constituency of Thoubal district. She is also the first woman MLA of Thoubal district.

According to his election affidavit, he owns assets worth Rs 2.94 crore and has liabilities worth Rs 68.71 lakh against him. Eight criminal cases are registered against Singh, as per the affidavit.

In 1984, he was elected to the 4th Manipur Legislative assembly as an Independent candidate. He was re-elected in 1990 from the Indian National Congress (INC) ticket.

Okram Ibobi Singh became the 19th Chief Minister of Manipur in 2002. In Manipur Legislative Assembly Election in 2007, he won on the Khangabok constituency with 16782 votes defeating Laishram Jatra Singh. He also won from Thoubal constituency by defeating Leitanthem Tomba Singh with 17393 votes. In 2012, INC won the Manipur assembly elections for the third consecutive term under Okram Ibobi Singh’s leadership.

There have been several assassination attempts on him. In November 2006, Okram Ibobi Singh’s official residence was attacked by the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK). On 2 September 2008, militants again attacked his official residence at Babupara, Imphal while he was sleeping.
