International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that the World Test Championship (WTC) final being played in Southampton, England between India and New Zealand will enter day 6 also called the reserve day after two games- Day 1 and Day 4 were called off due to rain and bad light. June 23 was provisioned as a reserve day to make up for any time lost on the five scheduled days, according to ICC’s statement.

What is a reserve day?

According to ICC’s release on WTC playing conditions, “the reserve day has been scheduled to ensure five full days of play, and it will only be used if lost playing time cannot be recovered through the normal provisions of making up lost time each day. However, there will be no additional day’s play if a positive result is not achieved after five full days of play and the match will be declared a draw in such a scenario.”

  •  The game will begin at 10.30 am (BST) at The Ageas Bowl 
  • The maximum duration for the day is a minimum of 330 minutes (or 83 overs, whichever is later), plus the last hour
  • A total of 98 over will be available in the day     
  • Tickets for the reserve day are being sold at a discounted rate 
  • In case of a draw or a tie after the total designated time on the reserve day, the teams will be declared joint winners of the ICC World Test Championship Final 2021, ICC said
