Kanpur Test: Internet blasts India for poor 2nd innings batting vs Kiwis
- India's top order collapsed in the second innings in the Test match against New Zealand
- Fans are demanding more from the senior players
- Ajinkya Rahane's presene in the team is being questioned by many
Indian batters failed miserably in the second innings of their ongoing Test match against New Zealand. The scorecard read 17, 1, 22, 4, 0 and 32 - these figures are not a fair reflection of the talent in the lineup and much more is expected from a team that played in the first-ever final of the World Test Championship. None of the top and middle order batter would want to remember their innings for a long time.
The fans are demanding more from the players by voicing their concerns on social media. They are asking questions off the heavyweights such as Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane who have been in the squad for a long time in spite of giving below par performances on several successive occasions.
After putting 345 runs on the board in the first innings courtesy of Shreyas Iyer’s century, a wonderful knock on his Test debut, and Ravindra Jadeja’s half century, this is not what was expected in the second innings.
New Zealand were bowled out for 296 runs and India headed into the second innings with a 49 run lead. India looked to be in pole position to win the match but the grip on the game was lost soon when the top order got knocked out like dominoes.
Shubman Gill’s nothing shot near the end of Day 3 resulted in Kyle Jamieson grabbing an important wicket. He was criticised by fans and experts alike for his poor decision making as they were expecting him to remain on the pitch on the next day.
Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara opened the batting on Sunday morning but neither stayed for long.
Pujara’s wicket was followed by Rahane’s dismissal and Mayank followed suit. Meanwhile, Ravendra Jadeja was unable to mirror his first innings heroics as he departed on a duck.
