Haruichi Furudate’s Haikyuu! made a surprise cameo during a Tokyo Olympics volleyball game. Yes, you heard it right! Haikyuu fans were surprised to see that happen in a much different way than they expected. Haikyuu‘s very first opening theme made its debut at the perfect moment.

During the game between Japan and Venezuela’s Men’s Volleyball teams was accented by SPYAIR’s “Imagination,” which also served as the very first opening theme for Haikyuu’s anime. Japan claimed their first victory at the Olympics with a straight 3-0 win. One Twitter user  (@anjaheyheyhey) captured the video and posted it on the micro-blogging platform Twitter.

Haikyuu has been praised worldwide including several professional volleyball athletes. As fabs would know the series has a pretty close connection with the Olympics as well.

The Olympic games come into play towards the end of the series as the natural result of Shoyo Hinata and Tobio Kageyama’s desire to play and strive further in the game, and it’s great to see it all come full circle like this as the series bleeds further into real life. The animated Haikyuu series has also broken many records.

Now with the anime theme playing over Japan’s Olympics victory, it is safe to say the series has found new life again well before the fifth season of the anime even comes out.
