Liz Cheney, the vice chair of the House Select Committee, in its first primetime hearing on Thursday revealed what is likely to come up at the upcoming sessions over the next week.
The committee, led by US Rep Bennie Thompson, is investigating former President Donald Trump’s effort to overturn the 2020 election and the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection of the US Capitol.
Unreleased footage of the riot was played at the hearing as the House committe presented their findings to the public.

“What we make public here will not be the complete set of information we will ultimately disclose,” Cheney said.
She further outlined their agenda for the next week.
On Monday, Cheney said, will show “Trump engaged in a massive effort to spread false and fraudulent information” even though he and his advisors knew that he had, in fact, lost the election.
The GOP leader’s daughter and senior advisor Ivanka Trump told the committee that she accepted then Attorney General Bill Barr claims that there wasn’t sufficient fraud to overturn the election.
On Wednesday, in the third hearing, the committee will show how “Trump corruptly planned to replace the Attorney General of the United States so the US Justice Department would spread his false stolen election claims”.

The fourth hearing will then shed light on the former President’s “efforts to pressure Vice President Mike Pence to refuse to count electoral votes on Jan. 6.”
The fifth hearing will see evidence “that President Trump corruptly pressured state legislators and election officials to change election results including details about his call to Georgia officials urging them to ‘find’ votes” put up in public.
The sixth and seventh will show how “Trump summoned a violent mob and directed them, illegally, to march on the US Capitol” and “failed to take immediate action to stop the violence and instruct his supporters to leave the Capitol.”
Thursday night’s hearing was providing eyewitness testimony from the first police officer pummeled in the mob riot and from a documentary filmmaker who tracked the extremist Proud Boys as they prepared to fight for Trump immediately after the election and then led the storming of the Capitol.
