Neeraj Chopra, India’s first Olympic gold medallist is on a break after nonstop felicitation functions and sponsor commitments. After a historic performace in Tokyo, Chopra is currently vacationing in the Maldives.
Even on a vacation at such a picturesque location, Neeraj can’t stop thinking about sports and javelin.
He posted a video of himself shadow practicing javelin throw underwater with a caption that said, “Aasman par, zameen pe, ya underwater, I’m always thinking of the javelin!.”
He also shared a couple of photographs from his Maldives holiday in his Instagram stories, one of which shows him enjoying his “healthy breakfast with a view”.
Neeraj Chopra ended his season early due to a packed schedule and illness.
Chopra is the second Indian to win an individual gold at the Olympics. He is the first athelete to win a gold in a track and field event. He vaulted himself into history books with a staggering 87.58m javelin throw in the second round.
In 1960, legendary Indian sprinter Milkha Singh missed an Olympic medal by a fraction of a second. In 1984 Los Angeles Olympics PT Usha forgot to dip at the finish line resulting in a heart-breaking fourth-place finish.
Neeraj’s success has impacted the sports at grass root levels. Sports academies are getting rush for new enrolments and retailers are shipping in more equipment. He said that he is getting “at least half a dozen text messages every day” from beginners asking about coaches.
